Marked to the reverse for Henry Matthews at the Birmingham Assay office, this gorgeous Art Nouveau styled pendant dates to the early 20th century and is a really lovely find as this style of jewel was much more common on the Continent. A flowing naturalistic design picked out in 9ct yellow Gold and set with greeny hued Chinese Turquoises all is quite dreamy...
Henry Matthews was a Vittoria St, Birmingham based Silversmith. His first mark was registered in 1894 and he is remembered for his small silver items that required great attention to detail. He made a range of cigarette cases, frames, hat pins, card cases and buttons as well as some exquisite Gold pendants and jewellery in the Art Nouveau style such as this piece.
On a contemporary 9ct Gold trace chain measuring 18 inches, please inspect the photos closely as there is some original pitting to the lower Gold curve. Measures 4cm including the bale.
